Almost There!

Almost There!

May 15, 2013 by

I spent today driving to Armstrong (our airbase) to bring up the second load of supplies and office equipment. As of right now Mattice Lake is partially ice-free. The turbo otter, beaver, and 180 are sitting at the hangar ready to be brought North. I will be returning to the U.S. to get another load of supplies ready and start bringing the airplanes North on Monday. We are going to be flying the crew into Smoothrock Camp, Almos Bay and Funger Outposts on Monday afternoon. As of right now we believe (finger crossed and watching the forecast) that all parties will be able to get into these destinations. However, Shabuskwia Lake will be at least another 7-10 days. I will be updating Facebook, Twitter, and this blog from now throughout the fishing, hunting, and canoeing season.

All Canada Highlights and Lund Boats!

It's been a busy last few days at Thunderhook! Deb has been featured twice on the All Canada Show Facebook Page. First, Deb was featured on the front of the All Canada Adventures Show Program and then as she stood in front of the new Thunderhook booth the next night. Over the past couple of years we have updated our sportshow booths to pop-up stands which are much easier to travel with when on the road. We are also ultra-excited to have gained the endorsement of Lund Boats. We have upgraded all of the boats at our outpost camps and lodge to 16ft Lund SS-V Boats. They are fantastic and a pleasure to fish out of it. Til' Next Time.... Drake

Coming Soon: Direct Air Service from Thunder Bay to Chicago, Illinois

Coming Soon: Direct Air Service from Thunder Bay to Chicago, Illinois

September 07, 2012 by

We have some exciting news for those of you using air service to Thunder Bay, Ontario on your way north on your fly-in fishing trip to Thunderhook Fly-Ins. This July United Airlines announced that they would add a non-stop route with a 50 seat CRJ-200 Jet that departs Chicago at 6PM and arrives in Thunder Bay at 8:40PM. The return flight from Thunder Bay to Chicago departs Thunder Bay at 6AM and arrives in Chicago at 6:35AM. This is great news as many fishermen and women have had to make painful connections through the Toronto air service after Delta Airlines stopped serving the Thunder Bay Airport a few years ago. We will be working with a travel agent soon to create a package fishing trip complete with airfare and limousine transportation right to Thunderhook in Armstrong Station, Ontario. Stay Tuned for More Good News from Thunderhook!

The Moose Hunt is Nearing....

The Moose Hunt is Nearing....

September 04, 2012 by

Well folks, it has been a great summer in Armstrong Station, Ontario at Thunderhook Fly-Ins. We are still extremely busy flying in fishermen and women. One thing that has become extremely popular is the fall fishing and hospitality at the Smoothrock Camp, currently Debbie has around 30 fishermen in camp plus a large group of women. All reports as of today are that the women are outfishing the men and having more fun! On the Thunderhook side, the Dan Larson Party from the MPLS/Twin Cities area just returned from Shab Island a few days ago along with The Swift Party that was staying at Shab South. The fall fishing there was fantastic and many walleyes in the 23"-26" were caught and put back for future generations.

Where's Winter???

Where's Winter???

December 14, 2011 by

It seems as though winter will never arrive here in the northland. Although there is upwards of a foot of ice on many nearby lakes, ponds, and streams it has not been all that cold as of recent. However, spirits remain high that we will get a bit of snow to make a "White Christmas."

Ontario Fly In Fishing

June 25, 2011 by

Ok.... I promise to keep the blog up to date from now on throughout the season. This Spring has been exceptionally busy at Thunderhook along with the fishing as usual. Several Parties at the Smoothrock Camp on Smoothrock Lake, Ontario have caught Northern in excess of 45 inches with a couple being right at 50 inches. Walleyes are biting as usual on just about anything. The typical areas of the triangle, onion patch, Wabakimi Falls, Lonebreast, and Outlet Bay are producing consistent results. Thunderhook guests are experiencing decent fishing on Shabuskwia Lake after a recent slowdown in the action. Several days of stable weather and warm temperature have picked up the pace for the top two species and Brookies are still being caught at the North end of the lake in the Shab river. It has been hot here lately. Today will be pushing 90 degrees. I promise to keep in contact with everyone on a more routine basis in the coming months and will continue to post pictures of great fish and good friends/family. Remember the best Ontario Fly-In Fishing Trip yet begins in Armstrong, Ontario

We are happy to announce to all of our guests at Thunderhook and Smoothrock that we will have much better air service accommodations for the upcoming year. We have hired West Caribou Air Service Ltd for the summer to take care of our Otter flying. Their equipment is immaculate and we believe it will hugely benefit not only THOOK/SRC but most importantly OUR GUESTS. Donny will also be flying the Beaver this summer as he has done in the past. With the Otter and Beaver on line this summer groups will be able to travel as one without a wait and we will also be able to get you and your group out of "the bush" earlier for the drive back. We believe this is essential to providing the best Ontario Fly In Fishing Trip available.

Thank you everyone for patiently waiting as new features are added to our new website. We feel our new website is a big improvement from the last and will enable us to serve everyone much better in the future. Things are beginning to happen in Armstrong. The ice should be out in 20 days or so (god willing) and the weather is really beginning to warm up. Rudy will soon be getting the base ready and finishing up our addition to the office (hospitality room), and the new dock system which we built last fall. We are just receiving our new boats and motors from Yamaha and Lund. Last year we purchased 20 new 15hp and 20hp Yamaha four-stroke motors and 10 Lund 16ft boats. We are doing the same again this year. We feel that while others are letting the age of their boats and motors and other equipment slide we will continue to upgrade our facilities and equipment. Last year we really received some nice compliments on the new motors but especially with the new 16ft boats. How many other fly-in outposts have 16ft boats? It looks like water will be a bit on the high side this spring and we are hoping no damage is done to docks etc... Looking forward to seeing everyone in the upcoming summer!
